TRAVEL AS A TOOL

Trips and journeys of Nordic designers and architects from the 1940s to the present day at Design Museum.



Archipelago, a 26-metre-long tapestry, will be exhibited at Design Museum Helsinki’s Travel as a Tool exhibition that will present the trips and journeys of Nordic designers and architects from the 1940s to the present day.




Travel has had an important role int the work of many designers as a source of inspiration and impulses, new materials, manufacturing methods and partners for collaboration. With reference to diaries, correspondence and photographs, it describes the meaning of travel as part of the design process and values associated with travel in the past and at present. The exhibition will be realised in collaboration with the Vandalorum Art Centre of Sweden and the Tønder Art Museum in Denmark and it will be on show at Design Museum from 3 April to 20 September 2020.
